THE SPIRIT CONTINUES

The spirit embodied at the Missouri Scholars Academy continues yearlong as MSA alumni attain great achievements in their professional and personal lives. If you like to share the success of fellow MSA alumni, please e-mail Ted Tarkow.

Marsha Tyson (fac ‘10) is one of 103 mathematics and science teachers who won the Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science. Marsha also received the Columbia Public Schools Junior High Teacher of the Year this year.
Julie Kampschroeder (fac. '94-'96) has been named "Teacher of the Year" in the Pattonville School District
Alan Hatfield (MSA ‘07; office Staff ‘10) is one of two students--one male, one female--from Missouri so named, and one of 141 in the country who has been selected a 2010 U.S. Presidential Scholar. Alan was selected for having demonstrated outstanding academic achievement, artistic excellence, leadership, citizenship, service, and contribution to school and community. Alan will take time out of his MSA Office Staff responsibilities in order to travel to Washington, D.C. June 19 – 22.

Two MSA alumni (Munro Richardson, MSA '86, and Antwaun Smith, MSA '91; RA '96-'98; prog. staff & com. service '00; asst. fac. '03-04) have written thoughtful essays for a recent issue of the Kansas City Star. Both Munro and Antwaun were Rhodes Scholars.

Kevin Wolf (RA '86-'89) is President Barack Obama's nominee for Assistant Secretary of Commerce-Export Administration. Kevin is presently a partner in the Washington, D.C. office of Bryan Cave LLP.
Andrew McCall (MSA '04), is the most recent MSA scholar to be the recipient of a major scholarship. He is one of the 32 United States 2010 Rhodes Scholars
Peter Dubrowski (MSA '05),selected to intern at the White House
Michael Andrade (MSA '08), selected as a National Hispanic Recognition Program Scholar
Sarah Jenkins (MSA '00; RA '05-'07; coord comm serv. '08) featured in the Springfield, MO, GO Magazine
Scott Murphy (MSA 1986) elected to the United States Congress from an upstate New York district.
Grant Gates (MSA 2008) earns perfect score (36) on ACT.
Chris Kelly (MSA 2007) is recruited to swim for Princeton University. 
Ericca Thornhill (MSA 1990, Faculty 2002-2004, 2007, Special Assistant 2005-2006) wins Daniel Boone Writing Contest. 
Mary Wiltenburg (MSA 1992, Faculty 2004-2005) wins $5,000 journalism award. (Wall Street Journal, June 9, 2008)
Antwaun Smith (MSA 1991, RA 1996-1998, Program Staff & Community Service 1999, Assistant Faculty 2000, Faculty 2003-2004, 2007) featured in "If these are the 'elite,' our nation needs more of them. (Kansas City Business Journal, May 16, 2008)
Evan Mirts (MSA 2006) wins $20,000 scholarship at the Intel National Science Talent Search. (Jefferson City News Tribune, March 12, 2008)

Ryan Sun (MSA 2006) and Yajie Yu (MSA 2006) gain college-level lab experience. (Columbia Tribune, January 10, 2008)
Ethan Adkison (MSA 2007) earns $10,000 scholarship using creativity in video competition. (St. Joseph News-Press, December 28, 2007)
Todd Gingrich (MSA 2002) is named a Rhodes Scholar and will study solar energy at Oxford. (Columbia Tribune, November 19, 2007)
